Red-legged Seriamas come from
South America. There are
many special and unique
things about these cool
birds that are shared with
the only other living
member of its family, the
Black-legged Seriama.
For example, seriamas are one of the
few birds with eyelashes… if you sit
in the front row of a
Wonders of
Nature
show you just might see
BamBam bat his eyelashes at you!

In the wild seriamas are more often seen than heard. They are famous for
their loud call, which can be heard from several miles away.

Seriamas are omniverous and have a very unique hunting style. If they
catch a small lizard or other animal, they beat their prey on the ground or
throw it at a hard surface like a rock to kill it. If the prey is too large to
swallow whole, it will be ripped into smaller pieces with a sickle claw
(similar to those in
Deinoychosaurs like Velociraptor) by holding the prey
in the beak and tearing it apart with the claw. During our show you will
have the entertaining opportunity to see BamBam demostrate his throwing
and pounding skills for you… but don't worry, no real lizards are hurt,
BamBam does the job with his plastic toy lizard!
